Behind the Scenes: Serenity Hamsa Hand

The Hamsa Hand is a piece of cultural, symbolic artwork that I’ve always been magnetised to. Prior to discovering the meaning behind them, I’ve always found the embellished hand and eye to be an attractive prospect for *another* tattoo on my body.

If there’s one thing I know for certain, it’s that I love symmetry and intricate patterns. My art preference, and also my personal drawing style, definitely leans towards this flavour, and I prefer abstract over realism any day. All reasons why maybe I’m drawn to the Hamsa Hand.

What does the Hamsa Hand symbolise?

Despite having slightly varied meanings across different cultures and religions, the Hamsa Hand definitely has very positive connotations.

The general feeling I’ve gathered from my research is that it harnesses magical protective power that can ward off any danger or negative energy from the “Evil Eye”, therefore ultimately ensuring the happiness and wellbeing of the bearer.

Pretty cool, huh?

The Drawing Process

Serenity Hamsa Hand – Full Time Lapse

Have you downloaded June's freebie page yet over at you have, here's a little peek at my creative process. From start to finish, this is how my doodle progressed on the iPad 🙂 I don't always draw on the iPad, I mix up between traditional and digital methods depending on my mood, and this design happened whilst I was away in Devon with my fiance. He went fishing and I was in my happy place drawing!
